Everything is Not 'OK'

After the result of the EU Referendum, it is unclear how the UK will cope with leaving the EU. People with learning disabilities at CHANGE talk about the result and its effects.
Everything is Not 'OK'

Why we are worried

We feel very disappointed and angry that the UK will be leaving the EU.

We are worried that:

•    There will be more cuts to our benefits

•    Disabled people's rights will not be protected

•    It will be hard for CHANGE and other organisations to work with partners in the EU

•    It will be hard for UK businesses to trade in Europe. People could lose their jobs which will mean a rise in unemployment. This would make it even more difficult for people with learning disabilities, like us, to get meaningful jobs.

What about the future?

We have many questions about the future of the UK.

Instead of listening to our worries, politicians are arguing about who will lead.

We need a new prime minister and we feel that there should be a general election to decide this.

Challenging hate crime

Since the UK voted to leave the EU there has been an increase in racist hate crime and xenophobia.

The referendum result has brought out feelings of hatred in some people.

We are very upset about this.

"I feel embarrassed to be British."

"As an Asian woman, I do not feel safe."

It is important to challenge hate crime and report it by calling the police.

Sometimes we do not feel comfortable talking to the police as they do not always take us seriously.

If you do not feel comfortable talking to the police, you can call an organisation like Stop Hate UK.

We need to support each other

As people with learning disabilities we understand what it feels like to experience hate crime.

It can make you feel very alone.

We support everyone who experiences hate crime.

We need to stop all hate crime, not next year, not the year after, but now.
