Learning Disability Access Audit

How can you be sure that your services are fully accessible to people with learning disabilities?  The most inclusive way is to ask people with learning disabilities!  People with lived experience of learning disability understand the barriers people often face, but they are also the experts in how to remove those barriers and make things better.

Our experienced volunteers will visit your premises and carry out a specially designed Access Audit on your buildings and services.  They will check whether your building and services are well laid out, accessible and welcoming from a learning disability point of view.  The Volunteer Auditors all have learning disabilities or autism and some have physical disabilities too.  They are full of great ideas for how to make services better for all the users of your services – employees and members of the public.  They will provide you with an Easy Read checklist of what they have reviewed and a report of their recommendations for how to make your services better for people with learning disabilities.  We can also work with you to make the changes that would improve your services – for example designing Easy Read signs, training your staff or helping with your Accessible Information Standard Implementation Plan.  Please contact us for more information.

Learning Disability Website Audit

Our volunteers are not only experienced in physical access audits, they are also experts in advising whether websites are accessible for people with learning disabilities.  The volunteers would carry out a full audit and provide you with a written report with their recommendations for how the site could be improved from a learning disability point of view.  The audit would be tailored to your needs – from a full review of all your pages to a smaller selection of pages and links or a particular ‘journey’ that you want your website visitors to take.  Please contact us for more information.

Learning Disability Quality Check

Our Quality Checkers can review your printed easy read documents – leaflets or forms for example, and give their detailed recommendations for whether they can be improved.  We can also supply our ‘Quality Checked by People with Learning Disabilities’ kite mark for your finished leaflets as a mark of the quality and accessibility of your documents.  If you’d prefer, we can take your draft text and our Accessible Information Team can turn it into fully Quality Checked Easy Read.
