The accessible Information Standard has been out now for a while, so people and organisations know they need to go by it when producing information for different groups with different accessibility needs.
But while Braille and Large Font information might be quite straight forward to produce, things get a bit more complicated when it comes to easy read. This is because easy read applies to such wide groups of people who fall within one or more of these categories: people with learning disabilities, people who struggle with literacy, people who struggle with understanding large amounts of information, or people who do not speak English as their first language.
Over 20 years of experience in producing easy read has taught us that there is no such thing as a “one size fits all” solution when it comes to producing easy read. But the bottom line is that, whatever technique you choose, whatever colour background, whatever visual representations (illustrations or photos), quality must prevail – people from the above categories need resources that are of the same quality standard as anybody else. Well produced information, good design, suitable formats.
With these in mind we designed our new training on how to produce easy read. With a focus on accessibility, quality checking with target audiences, high quality throughout, using custom examples for every client and a hands on approach to learning, we believe this is the ideal training session for you if you are looking into producing your own resources.
