How you can support self care for life

We share our accessible Easy Read information so you can support people with learning disabilities to self care.

There is a lot of information to help people understand how to stay healthy from the beginning to the end of life. What if you can’t understand this information? Accessible information is easier to understand for people with learning disabilities. That’s why we need to work together to provide accessible information for everyone, so they can look after their own health and make their own decisions about their health care.

CHANGE provide information that covers key stages in a lifetime:

  • Parenting - We have three books around parenting for people or children with learning disabilities. These are ‘My Pregnancy, My Choice’, ‘You and Your Baby – 0-1’ and ‘You and Your Little Child, 1-5 Years’. These are available on our website shop and gallery.

  • Moving into the community with our independence pack - The Independence Pack was produced by CHANGE with the support of NHS England, Local Government Association, and ADASS, the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services. The Leaving Hospital Planner helps to make sure people with learning disabilities are able to make their own decisions and plan for leaving hospital.

  • Friendships and Relationships  - This is part of our collection about sex and relationships which are split into 5 easy read booklets. CHANGE then created into easy read animations which you can view here.

  • End of Life and After someone Dies - We worked with Macmillan providing 52 accessible easy read booklets about cancer. This includes ‘End of life’ and ‘After someone dies’. You can find these and download them for free on Macmillan’s website
